"I've had the very rare luxury to have recently visited the Fontalpino estate. Family owned and run by brother and sister Filippo and Gioia Cresti, alongside daughter Sara, Carpineta Fontalpino sits close to the foot of Montaperti hill. In 1260 it was the stage of the memorable battle between the municipalities of Siena and Florence. I love the elegance and clarity of red berry fruit in this wine; pleasantly dusty with tones of cedar, dried green herbs and spicy tobacco. Medium bodied in fruit weight, awash with superfine tannin and savoury tension." - Ryan Byrne
