A wine made for us by the legendary Ernie Loosen, since taking control of his family's 200+ year-old winery in 1988, Ernst Loosen has taken Dr. Loosen to new heights. His commitment to quality has seen him revolutionize the way that Dr. Loosen approached their great vineyard holdings on the slopes and valleys of the Mosel. He insisted on lower yields, farming with organic sprays rather than chemicals, and a gentler approach in the winery. It was an approach that was ahead of its time and has seen Dr. Loosen rise to be one of the benchmark producers of this famous region.
Based on the Dr L dry Riesling, the wine embodies the elegant and racy characteristics of steep, slate-soil Mosel vineyards at a very reasonable price. It is a bright, vibrant, fruit-driven wine made with grapes from contracted growers who work very closely with brothers Ernst and Thomas Loosen to achieve excellent quality and superb concentration in every vintage. There's a touch more lees work in our Cuvee in comparison with the D L dry cuvee, allowing more slightly more weight and texture.
