Established in 1988 by three families who invested in a previously state run winery, it was British native Philip Cox and his Romanian wife, Elvira who reshaped the Cramele Recas into one of the most successful wineries in Romania, feteasca neagră is the most celebrated Romanian variety - pre-phylloxeric and translates in English to the ‘Black Maiden’. In the glass this is a glistening pitch black, rich dark cherries leap forward, wrapped by violets and spice.
