Pronounced, textural… moreish and utterly delicious, Kerner was the ingenious idea of August Herold, with its first plantings in 1929 as a cross-breed of Riesling and Trollinger. Barossa Brothers Michael & Graeme Fechner had the foresight to release the potential for more than just Riesling plantings in the Eden Valley. Kerner has gained a wide array of comparisons to not just Riesling, but other classic whites like Verdiccio, Garganega, even Chardonnay. This has wonderfully vivid aromatics of florals, tropicals like melon, citrus and cooler herbal notes even seen in some Alpine wines from Alto Adige region in Italy. Expansive and generous in texture, there’s a bright acidity that delivers a long and lively finish.
