2019 Domaine Marcel Deiss Alsace Complantation
Progressive thought-leader wine-grower Jean-Michel Deiss has long been an agitator for change in his region. His forthright biodynamic views now ably carried forward by son Matthieu.
These are textural whites that express this sensuous, culturally rich pocket of France, straddling Swiss and German borders. Labelled simply as Alsace, this comes from a collection of field blended grape varieties from Deiss’ own vineyards.
This wine is a true expression of Alsatian terroir, with 13 varieties of grapes grown (organically or biodynamically) and harvested together, then pressed and fermented naturally with native yeasts. No mask for low-quality grapes, this is generous and waxy with soft golden pear, ripe apricot and peach.
