Back in the 70s, the expression of Rioja that put it on the international map was heavily influenced by extended ageing in American oak barrels. These savoury wines with soft vanilla sweetness and pale stewed red fruits were not everyone’s darlings. In contrast, Artuke’s wines burst with pure fruit and lively acidity. Sitting at cooler elevations, they organically farm their old bush vines. Grapes are completely destemmed followed by fermentation of whole berries, achieving pure and joyful depictions of both fruit and the Riojan landscape. With minimal ageing, consume young and savour.
