2019 Girolamo Russo A'Rina Etna Rosso

Since 2005, Giuseppe Russo has been organically farming his family's old vineyards, where many of the vines are around 100 years of age, and he is restoring the old cellar under his house. He has 15 hectares of vines on the Northern side of Etna around the town of Passopisciaro - considered the best part of the volcano for viticulture - and still sells off fruit from the youngest vines. He was part of the early wave of producers recognizing the potential of the region, the indigenous varieties, and traditional wines, and today makes some of the greatest wines on Mt Etna.

'The remarkable thing about the A rina, which is Giuseppe's Estate Etna Rosso, is the Vine age which averages 80 years. The powerful 2019 A rina was harvested from  Alberello vines in San Lorenzo , Feudo, and Calderara cru , vineyards which are situated between 650 and 800 m above sea level. Hand-harvested and spontaneous fermented into large Slavonian oak where the wine spends one year before bottling and aging for another 6 months before release.' - Suppiler notes
