2017 Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin
Jean-Marie Fourrier’s pure fruited red Burgundies are highly sought after. But it wasn’t always so. His father offered Robert Parker a choice earful at the peak of his reviewing powers, resulting in difficulties in gaining exposure to markets both in France and abroad.
All that’s now ancient history, and Jean-Marie has built on the legacy of his family’s extensive Gevrey plots. Like the wines, his sensitive, gentle articulations on his philosophies are compelling.
These are true Vieille Vignes (old vines), with original plantings from 1928 in the northern part of Gevrey. All fruit is destemmed. Fourrier feels that whole berries and his sparing use of new oak, give his wines the expressive clarity and purity of fruit they’re renowned for.
