2017 Deiss Alsace Blend
Waxy & Ripe
Progressive thought-leader wine-grower Jean-Michel Deiss has long been an agitator for change in his region. His forthright biodynamic views now ably carried forward by son Matthieu.
These are textural whites that express this sensuous, culturally rich pocket of France, straddling Swiss and German borders. Labelled simply as Alsace, this comes from a collection of field blended grape varieties from Deiss’ own vineyards.
No mask for low-quality grapes, this is generous and waxy with soft golden pear, ripe apricot and peach.
With its steely finish, it is as comfortable with winter oysters as a plate of ripe alpine cheeses.
