2016 Bodegas Moraza Las Tasugueras Rioja
Sorry, currently out of stock
A generation ago in the famous Spanish region of Rioja, lauded older brands, were more like Champagne houses. They bought and sold grapes from small growers across the whole region, blending and branding them as their own. So despite being sixth generation Riojan, Bodegas Moraza is part of the New Spain.
‘Tasuguera’ is a single parcel of organically tended vines located at high altitude in the Rioja Alta district of the Cantabrian foothills. The cool nights and clay limestone soils influence the style of red fruit, preserving acidity and giving tempranillo that is pure and fresh.
Raised in concrete and left unfiltered, these wines offer a glimpse of new potential still to be re-explored in the Rioja landscape.
‘Raspberries and cranberries with tobacco leaf and red earth tones lead into a plush core of spice and black and red fruits. The fine chewy tannins on the finish remind your tastebuds a plate of food is called for.’
