2019 Antonio Camillo Ciliegiolo Toscana
~ Smokey & Savoury Italian
Although often confused with sangiovese, ciliegolo is a distinct grape variety.
Meaning ‘little cherry’ or ‘cherry-scented’, Italian expert Ian d’Agata suspects it may unwittingly have found its way into many wines where sangiovese’s name was used in vain. Sourced from parcels of old vines in the Grosseto region in the upper Maremma of Tuscany’s southwestern coast.
Its densely packed bright fragrant red fruit of strawberry, plum and pomegranate ably cut by woody herbs and smokey tea.
