2012 Jean-Max Roger Sancerre Rouge Vieilles Vignes
Sorry, currently out of stock
Sancerre might be synonymous with sauvignon blanc, but that’s not where it ends. That superb light footed freshness find its way into the reds and rosés made from pinot noir. Keep in mind, that this part of the central Loire is a short drive from Burgundy’s north.
This is no curio offering though. Jean-Max Roger dedicates 30% of their winemaking to reds, compared with other Sancerre estates where it might at best be 5%.
These are 45 year old vines, close planted on limestone marls. With bottle age, the perfumed smokey dark raspberry fruit has woven lovely detailed savoury layers to this very attractive red.
