2017 Prieler Blaufränkisch Johanneshöhe, Austria
Smokey & Fleshy Red
Scattered about the sunny surrounds of the flatpan infinity lake of Neusiedl, in Austria’s Far East, is the diverse Burgenland region. On its east coast lies a wedge between the Hungarian border and the wide expanse of the Pannonian plains beyond.
The Prielers on the other hand, are distinctly a west side story. Nestled between the lake shore and the ringed mountain ranges of the Leitha that rise up in the region’s northwestern tip. Johanneshöhe comes from nine organically farmed vineyard parcels grown on soils of limestone and schist.
For those who love supple, smokey richer fruited Bourgogne rouge or top class Beaujolais, without the price tag, put all your money on Burgenland.
