2016 G.D. Vajra Albe Barolo
From an eagles nest over the town of Barolo itself, Albe unites a collective of vineyards with differing altitudes, exposures and sunrises. This intimate knowledge of a vineyard‘s gifts, and how best to harmonise them, was once the only way Barolo honoured its crus. This essence of respect for the rich wisdom of previous generations like Bartolo Mascarello and Teobaldo Cappellano, is not lost on the Vajra family.
Giuseppe Vajra, is a giant-hearted immensely likeable romantic. Philosophical, and hardworking, there’s clear engagement, belief and pride in the future of the region, with the humble sensibility of previous generations.
Whilst 2016 is already a well fancied vintage, the true class of this wine is in its supple and detailed texture. This is deep seated, dark and fine. Licorice, and menthol wisps through dark cherry, roasted beets and lovely, composed tannins. The longer it sits, the more it slowly loosens.
Exceptional value that well honours its legacy.
